Radical Inclusiveness

Ravensworth Baptist Church is an inclusive and welcoming Christian community where expressing the love of God to all people is central to our worship, study, and service.

We believe that God calls us to be a community of love, where all are welcomed and accepted.  To this end we have adopted a stance of radical inclusiveness - not simply tolerance of others but active acceptance.  We believe that we are all children of God, regardless of race, gender, creed, or sexual orientation.

We are Welcoming and Affirming! That means that LGBTQ persons, their families, friends, and loved ones, are invited to fully participate in the life and leadership of our congregation. We invite you to bring your whole self, your whole life, and your God-given gifts to share with us as we journey together.

Since 2006, we have been a proud member of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists (AWAB).

We will join area AWAB congregations in the 2017 DC Pride Parade on June 10, 2017. Check here for more information and details!

We also encourage you to investigate the work of Matthew Vines and his Reformation Project, especially his recorded sermon on the scriptural basis for the full affirmation and acceptance of LGBTQ Christians.  There are few sermons that so completely and eloquently explain the argument for inclusiveness from a biblical point of view.

Ravensworth member Dave Farmer was selected to be part of this inspiring project: one of 50 straight, gay, bisexual, and transgender Christians who were trained to be a leader in accelerating the acceptance of LGBT individuals within the Church.  To understand why this movement is so important, read Dave's story here: http://browneyedamazon.com/2013/07/28/staring-at-the-steps-of-equality/.
