This article from the Alliance of Baptists blog is an (all too brief -- I wanted to know more!) report on training in sexuality education for churches. This seems so important to me right now--important and obvious. Christianity is a religion of both body and spirit, yet in the 20th century we tried hard to take the body out of the equation to the point where many churches seemed to want to pretend that sex was not part of the human experience. Then of course there are those very conservative churches that seem to want to talk about sex all the time in a way that controls the bodies of women and minorities and reinforces patriarchal boundaries. But an honest education of all aspects of sexuality, scientifically based and yet rooted in our understanding of the spiritual? I'm not sure that's been done very much before, and it's about time.
