"All Are Welcome" Is (so often) False Advertising

It isn’t the church’s job to transform people—it’s Christ’s love that does that. How will LGBT people already wary of the church ever experience Christ’s love if the church only accepts them within limits? The “all are welcome, but…” approach is no better than the “love the sinner, hate the sin” mantra popularized by the evangelical church’s clunky and offensive attempt to address homosexuality. It creates a hierarchy in which one group of Christians feels righteously justified in pointing out the sins of another, “less sanctified” group of Christians. And it’s wrong.
