Here is a rather disheartening update on the increase in deportations ordered by the Obama administration in late December that I mentioned a few posts ago. The deportations began a few days ago, and are specifically targeting families from Central America, many of whom have come to the US fleeing violence and seeking refuge.
Yes, these families, these children, broke the law of the land when they crossed our border. But if our law cannot allow for nuance, if we cannot tell the difference between the desperate who seek safety, and those who are dangerous or breaking the law purely for economic gain, then the law itself is what is broken. Not just broken: it's a bad law.
