The Weather in Rome

Writing for Martin Marty's Sightings column, Dr. William Schweiker makes some sense out of the controversy sparked by Pope Francis's recent Encyclical on the Environment.  Conservative Catholic politicians seem to be racing one another to get as far away from the Pope's message as possible, a message that not only affirms that science and religion are not as at odds as most believe, but also affirms that care for the environment is a deeply human and religious issue.  If we do not care for it, we will not only cause damage to the environment--sin enough--but countless lives.
